Birthday cakes: homemade or store bought - Page 2

If it's for a party with their friends I usually get store bought because I can't decorate them that well. If it's just family I make it.

I have done both depends on what my child wants.

I prefer bakery cakes. If anyone asks for a homemade cake or other dessert, I'm willing to bake.

I've done both.  Bakery cakes are usually pretty reasonable.  Our Walmart has all their day-old cakes marked down 40%.  Go early in the day for the best selection.  They'll write your child's name on it for free too.  Cheaper than making one!!

Cake decorating is my hobby so can do anything you want including bridal cakes.

I normally buy (store bought cake is one of my favorite foods ever)...but this year I'm baking all of mine (Thanks to Pintrest biggrin.gif ).  I've gotten some fabulous ideas!

Forever we've gotten those Costco cakes, but that's because we usually have a party for ds.  If we weren't going to have a big party I would bake one (from a mix).  Last year we only had 6 boys at the party and we had SO much left over, so I'm not doing that again, I'll just buy a mix.

I made a carrot cake one time, you would have thought I told each child I just killed their dog the way they moaned and carried on.

Next year I'm just baking birthday brownies. Maybe some special ones for me so I don't have to be annoyed by other people's children

That's funny!  Because when we had ds' birthday party in December, I also had kids whining that they didn't like chocolate.  I looked them in the face and said, "Oh, I'm sorry.  It is ds' favorite".  I would think that 4th graders would be more polite than that, and was really annoyed and it didn't bother me the least and I certainly didn't say it like I was sorry.  I said it like, "well though Cr@p,!"  Honestly the same boy said the same thing when I brought in cupcakes for ds.  "I don't like chocolate".  I said the same thing in the same tone.  So you don't like it I'm not forcing it down your throat!
