Personal Gifts? Do your kids, DH, Parents, and ect. buy you personal gifts that you can enjoy such as clothes, books, or perhaps bath salts, or does it seem like you only get Toasters, New Towels, Dish Clothes, or anything else that could be consider "Household"? Does this bother you or not?

Let's hear your comments Ladies!!!

I'm contemplating going with practical household gifts for my mom for Christmas this year, so am waiting on all your honest thoughts!

Well, Karen, my Mom hates practical gifts. She figures she can go out and buy them herself. I on the other hand wouldn't mind at all. There are many times I won't spend the money on certain household items that would make my life easier, so if someone gifts it to me, I'm happy.

I'm happy with getting those types of gifts, but I think everyone is different, so it would depend on the person.

I'd RATHER have a practical gift! I don't need more lotion or candles or something for "me". I'd much rather have and ironing board or something.

And how many times have I hinted for an electric deep fryer!!! Every year, my inlaws buy my husband a dress shirt. He has a whole closet full of them, and barely wears them (he is in construction). One year, I said really clear, He really needs some jeans. Still got a shirt. People don't listen.

I myself don't usually get myself much at all in the manner of perfume, makeup, hair bands throughout the year. I have to be down to none and usually put it off as long as possible before I spend the money on myself. So I would rather get a personal gift rather than a Household gift. I don't need anymore household clutter anyway.

I Love practical gifts. I much prefer to get something I need and can use than something that is just cute or pretty.

This year, we asked my parents to buy us new white towels and sheets. I prefer white linens because I can bleach them when needed to get them extra clean and ours have seem better days. By waiting for Christmas, I know my parents will get us more expensive, higher quality linens than I would be able to buy if I was to replace them myself. It's worth the wait and I'm looking forward to it.

This also applies to kitchen supplies, I can't always afford to buy the higher quality pieces for myself that I would receive as a gift.

My MIL buys us a family membership to the zoo every year and it is great. Yes, it's practical, but so helpful and we all enjoy it.

LOL...this is the list I've given my DH so far this year...

Cookie sheets
Spatulas
New pot holders

It doesn't bother me. The kids and DH hate it, but I figure it'll make my life easier and that's what I want.

I love house hold gifts - my neighbor got me a the nice Nordicware bundt pan - which never on earth I would buy for $30.

DH hates giving these, but he is now realizing that it is better if i am happy with what I want.
