Do you have church on Christmas day?

There was a big debate in my church as to whether or not to hold services this Sunday, since it is Christmas.  We are going to have a short simple service though I expect a really small crowd.

We do, but just one hour (no sunday school).   We'll have to set an alarm and do presents after.  When we went to a Christmas party on Saturday night a couple weeks ago, our alarm clocks slept in and we were very late to church.

Okay, I'm confused. Wouldn't you WANT to go to church on Christmas?

I'm Catholic. We go to church on "holy days of obligation". In other words, we go to church on days even if they don't fall on a Sunday (example: Ash Wednesday). Christmas is a holy day of obligation. If it fell on a Monday, we'd go to church on Sunday then again on Monday. In our case, we can go the night before and we'd normally go to "Midnight Mass". However, our local church is having a 5:30pm "Children's Mass" on Saturday so we'll go to that instead. Midnight mass starts at 11:30pm and then mass on Sunday is at 11am (the earlier masses are cancelled because of the Midnight Mass). Does the 5:30pm Saturday mass count as going on Sunday? Technically yes because it is after sunset on Saturday, thus signally the day's end as in Jewish tradition.

We have service on Christmas Day, but no Sunday School. We have always had a Christmas Day service along with a Christmas Eve service.

I am also Catholic and they offer services on Christmas Eve and on Christmas Day.  The Christmas Day services are usually empty because everyone went the night before.  We go to the one that fits us best; but I enjoy Christmas Day services when it is just us...we have no one coming over or no one to visit.  It helps make it feel like Christmas.

I don't ever want to go to church out of "obligation".  We usually have services on Christmas eve, but not Christmas as most people are traveling or opening presents on Christmas morning, we have a very small congregation anyway.  We will be ther on Christmas morning and have volunteered to help out, my son is alcolyting.  Church is at 10 so we will be done opening gifts until dd and granddaughter arrive in the afternoon.

We are Methodists.  Typically we do not have Christmas Day service.  We do have 3 different Christmas Eve services though - a kids/family service (5p), a traditional carols/readings service (7:30p) and then a candelight service (11p).  However, since Christmas falls on a Sunday this year we will have our weekly service (10a) as well - it doesn't happen often and the numbers are small but it is a nice, simple, and short service and we do plan on going to 3 out of the 4 services this year. (Kids and I will forego the 11p service).

We go to Lutheran church.  I was raised Baptist.  We go to church on Christmas eve, 7pm Family Service. They also offer a midnight service.  There will be one service on Christmas day which we will not attend.  We told all the families in our Sunday School class we were on break for 2 weeks.  The kids were so happy, lol. We've been working on the Chirstmas play and all the kids are ready for a break.

We are Presbyterian and have a small congregation there is another small Presbyterian sort of sister church. Their church is offering a Christmas Service and ours is not, but we have the New Years service at our church for them to attend as well.

We have 2 Christmas services tomorrow at 4:30 and an 11:00 candlelight service. We are going to the afternoon one as my husband and both boys are in the bell choir and will be playing (can't wait to see") songs for the service!
