Save money on Canned soup

There was a new report that came out recently saying that canned soups can be harmful. (when are canned foods NOT being reported as harmful?)

My kids love canned soups.  They love going into the closet grabbing a can when they need s snack and heating it up in the microwave.

Recently I thought of a better idea, and cheaper!  I had bought a rotiserie chicken from Walmart. (And FYI, the cold chicken is a better deal than the hot one, it was almost $2 cheaper) After dinner, I boiled the chicken and made a stock out of it, then I made a chicken noodle soup out of it.  I portioned out bowls of soup on leftover food containers, and froze them.  Now when someone wants a bowl of soup, just take one out of the freezer and heat it up in the microwave. It may take longer than canned soup, but its healthier and cheaper.

Great idea! I try to cook large amounts on the weekend for us to eat on all week and take as lunches.( I worked 9 hour days last week so I was glad to have cooked ahead.) I plan to make taco soup and freeze this week.

I always make chicken soup from the rotiserie chicken, but I never thought of freezing individual servings.  I am going to do this next time!
