Making your own cleaning products!

Since we have some new members on here I thought I'd bring up Making your own cleaning products again!  Who does this?  What types of cleaning products do you make?  Do you think it is worth it?

*I make my own Laundry soap!  http://www.mommysavers.com/c/t/117399/savings-on-homemade-laundry-soap-is-huge, still doing this and still saving tons of money.

I made my own laundry soap and I love it. I still haven't finished the first batch I made and that was a year ago. The nice thing is when I do make it again the only thing I have to buy is the fels-naptha bar. I may even try making window cleaner sometime too once I get rid of all the windex we somehow inherited from who knows where. (because I know I certainly didn't buy it)

I use white vinegar and baking soda to clean surfaces and clear drains. I buy my bath soap from a guy at work who makes it and at $4 a bar, I'm not grinding it up to wash clothes with.

First time didn't post (odd).

Anyway, I had two questions: What is Fels-naptha (and where can it be purchased)? Have you noticed a significant difference in your clothing using home-made detergent (i.e. not stiff, clothes maintain their color and don't wear out too quickly?)

Thanks!

It's somewhat hard to find.  Where I live, I couldn't find it at Target or Walmart so I ordered it on Amazon.com.

I have been using white vinegar in my dishwasher as a rinse aide.  I'm pouring it directly into the rinse aide compartment and it seems to work just as well.

I use the juice of a real lemon & baking soda to clean the inside of my refrig, it smells good & it's clean  & fresh.  My mom said all those other cleaning products inside the refrig could harm you so I've always cleaned this way....Just thought I'd share

I made my laundry soap and dishwasher soap.  I really love how the laundry soap smells and I think it cleans the clothes just as good as commercial laundry soap.  The dishwasher soap works good too.

My DH works at a hardware store and he ordered it in for me.  If you can't find it at a local grocery store, check with your local hardware store, they may have it and if they don't they would probably order it in for you.

You don't have to particularly use Fels-naptha, I like to use Lever 2000, but have also used Dial soap. Any soap is good to use, except something like Dove which has a lot of moisturizer in it.  It won't thickin' up right.  I love my home-made soap, having been using it for a few years now.  I don't see a difference in the clothing other than it doesn't seem to break down the threads as quickly. clothes aren't stiff, color stays in well.  The good thing also with homemade soap that I noticed is the soap seems to rinse out better than store bought.  (Unless that is my imagination).    The cost savings is ever so worth the 10 minutes it takes to make.

Window cleaner is something I don't ever buy either.  Rubbing Alcohol, (Dollar General, big bottle $1.50)  works better than any I've ever bought in the past.  it cleans, disifects and doesn't leave any streaking.

I have a spray bottle of white vinegar that I use for mostly everything. To wash floors I use vinegar and dawn dish soap. For cleaning the bathroom I use bleach and water in a spray bottle.
