Mama Bargains/Mommysavers Giveaway – New Year, New Parents, New Ways to Save! - Page 3

Don't feel you need to buy everything that they sell for a baby.  I never bought a changing table--just used the top of a bureau or changed diapers on the floor with a blanket.  Same goes for the Diaper Genie.  I just disposed of the diapers in our outside trash.  It saved us a lot of money to just buy the essentials.

I make a lot of my daughters baby food, the rest I use coupons and sales to buy. Her clothes I got on clearance at the end of the season. I usually buy a store brand diaper( that works great) in bulk, and on sale to keep the price down. I got a boutique dress for $6 shipped, when it went on clearance and I used a $10 discount for being an active facebook follower. I also have started making plans for her first birthday and she's 7 months old. I get promotions from sears for free portraits which I use every month to send to my mom who is out of state.

My biggest way to save on diapers and wipes is to have them delivered to my home. Through sites such as Amazon, you can get a deep discount by ordering large boxes. I have found that this is cheaper than even using coupons on smaller packages of diapers. I also don't have to waste gas driving to the store and I rarely run out of diapers. I also know exactly when the diapers will be delivered which helps me budget them in every month. It also prevents us from buying diapers on impulse (if we were to run out) without coupons or a sale!

Sometimes, more than wipe will come out of the package at a time. Instead of trying to stuff them back into the package, I set them to the side and use them for "explosions" or add a little water to them later to wipe faces, hands, etc.

My second major area of saving is consignment. I purchase most of my kids' clothes at Once Upon A Child. Having two children under two years old makes it hard for me to hit garage sales and a lot of stores, so OUAC makes it easy to find what I need quickly and at a decent price. But when I am ready to sell, I consign at a twice-yearly church consignment sale in my city where I can decide the price. I also shop at this sale and find great deals. My children usually only get new outfits for special occasions, and that is only if I cannot find one at the consignment store.
