Or put it in the bank!  The drawback to accumulating a lot of cash in a jar is that you don't have the safety of having it in the bank, or the ability to accrue interest (even if most banks don't pay much interest right now).  :)

I sort of do this. I've got 4 jars in my closet, and anything smaller than a Toonie (a $2 coin, for non-Canucks) goes into them. One for pennies, nickels, dimes, and Loonies and quarters go into the fourth (the Laundry Change Jar).

This way, I never have to scrounge for laundry money, and the last time I got around to rolling them and bringing them to the bank, I had $180!

I am a single mom of 3 great kids and I don't spend ANY change. If it costs $1.02 I give the cashier $2.00 then I go to the next store same thing. I put all the change and any $1.00 bills in a huge cheese ball jar at the end of the day.

We just got back from a Disney World we spent 3 days in the parks, stayed on property, and had the deluxe meal plan as well as over $300.00 in spending money. All paid for with the money we saved. I took two years but was so worth it and I didn't start saving the $1.00's till 6 months prior to the trip. We have already started saving for our next trip.

Also by doing this with my kids it shows them the power of saving.

I save all my change, and at the end of they year I have enough to by myself or someone a special Christmas gift.

My husband and I started the $5 Dollar Box saving's plan 3 years ago. Since then, we have paid for two  7 day cruises~yes 2 of them~We paid cash for Christmas last year, had the A/C fixed in our daughter's car, paid to have the trees cut down in our yard that were dead due to the drought and are now saving towards our next cruise. This has been one of the easiest things that we have ever done and now, we get SO EXCITED when we get a $5 bill for change! We have a pretty box in our bedroom right by our dresser and all the $5 bills go in there at the end of the day. Every few months, I will pull out all the $5 bills and count them, clipping them together with a large paper clip in $100 bundles.  Now, all I have to do is see how many bundles I have clipped together to see how many hundreds I have. It is VERY INSPIRING to look in that box and see 8 or 9 bundles and know that you have almost $1000 saved! This program REALLY DOES WORK IF you are diligent to SAVE the $5 and NOT spend them until you are ready to spend them on a special goal!
