Got the final bill on DH's knee.

When this first started, I was thinking about $15,000 to fix his knee. That was about the price of my old boss's surgery. Quickly, I could see it was going to be higher, I started thinking $35,000. Then I saw the hospital bill and it looked like his totally would be about $50,000, that was with me guessing the doctor bill. We got the doctor bill ... Grand total, almost $60,000.

My brother's heart attack, with life flight, was $75,000.

And the really bad thing? The doctor thinks he might have to go in and re- fix one of his meniscus again.

All that kept coming to mind while reading your post  was " Oh my goodness!!!" that is minus a few choice words. I am speechless and wish I knew what to say. Maybe you can talk to the hospital and see if they can lower the price some. That amount is just crazy.

What????? Does your plan not have a deductible/OOP Max so you owe all of that? That just stinks. I would definitely go talk to the business office and see what they could work out.

That is the cost before insurance? Or after? I'm assuming you mean before insurance.

Doesn't surprise me. It was over $25,000 just for my broken ankle! Thankfully we didn't have to pay for it, but still. That's just nuts.

All  I can say is I hope that your Dh doesn't need another surgery and the doctor is wrong about needing to refix it.

knees are EXPENSIVE. I am glad we have insurance because my knee was total around $120,000.00 this was a knee scope and then the 2nd surgery and I had to have Carticel cell growth that alone was 70K.  This total doesn't even touch my physical therapy costs.

Apply for Aid!

We had a baby in for 6 days last year the bill before insurance was over 30K. We still were left with 8K. We make around 50K annual and we still qualified for 80% aid.  So we paid only $1600 what a relief.  They put us on a payment plan didn't charge interest . 2 more payments and we are done.

The nice thing with medical bills is that I found people realize they are dreadfully spendy and they work with you.

I was thinking DD's ER visit and 4 days in the hospital was spendy at $20,000. I guess I was wrong.

The itemized bill was humorous. For instance, they'd give her 4 - 100mg tablets of ibuprofen (very high fever) at $16 a pill, then later they'd give her 1 - 400mg tablet of ibuprofen at $9 a pill. What a huge cost difference! We're lucky that her CAT scan was only $4600.
