Help! Little moving bump on head

While my 8 yr old was between wrestling matches today, he was leaning on me and I was rubbing his head.  I felt a little bump on the back of his head.  When I looked at it closer, I found it was red in that area.  Any ideas what it could be?  I pan to take him into urgent care tomorrow, but it is worrying me.

Does it hurt? Is he acting weird? I wouldn't really overreact to it myself. I'd give it a few days to see if it goes away. He could have just bumped his head or any number of other things.

could it be a bug bite?

Riley has them in his neck.  I found five and freaked out.  I took him to his dr who said he thought they were okay but sent us to a specialist.  Turns out he had SEVENTEEN of them!  OMG!!  BUT, they ARE, in fact, completely normal.  The dr. told us that as long as they did move around, they are fine.  It is when they DON'T move that I needed to worry.  His are the size and shape of a kidney bean.  It's been several years now, and each time, they assure me they are fine...but oh do they STILL freak me out!  Praying that your son's is the same thing!

Could it be a tick?  Has he been outside a lot? Ticks are still active in the winter.

At the base of his skull? A fluid filled node at the base of his skull, given that he is in wrestling, could be a sign of a head injury and does require immediate attention.

Otherwise, my hubby doesn't have any swollen areas, but he does have a red area on his scalp that moves. It completely freaks me out especially since he has extremely short hair and I can see it. It isn't a rash. His scalp is actually red. However no doctor has thought it was significant.

Small nodes can be swollen lymph nodes. They can remain swollen long after the originating infection.

UPDATE: it turns out the nodule was a swollen lymph node. He has eczema and had developed some dry patches on his scalp that became infected. He is now on antibiotics or the infection.

Glad to hear it isn't anything too serious.
