I did it! I gave up.....

Paper towels!

I have always said there are a few household things I won't give up...toilet paper, clorox (or lysol) wipes, and paper towels. Well...I did it.....I gave up paper towels. I replaced the holder with a little rag holder and so far the only one having trouble adjusting is DH (he is a multi papertowel user for EVERYTHING (and the main reason we went though them so fast redface.gif)

Now...I realize I could also probably give up the wipes if I learned how to make them myself...but there is no way on this great green earth I am giving up TP...THAT one is NOT going to happen!

Have you given up anything wasteful lately? How is it working out for you?

What is it with men and paper towels? When my dh cleans he probably goes through an entire roll in about 30 minutes.eek.gif I tried giving them up, but he wasn't having it!hissyfit.gif

I confess, after years of never using paper towels, I'm back to using the half-sheet ones daily. Our apartment kitchen has WHITE counters that are so worn they absorb every single stain. I use the half-sheet paper towels as a prep area when making DD's and hubby's lunch. I probably should use a cutting board. I need to be more conscious of that and try to change. Thanks for the reminder.

I use paper towels and have no plans to give them up. We use the half-sheet ones. I use them as a prep area to make my sandwich in the AM, then put it in my lunch bag as a napkin for lunch. We use them as napkins on occasion. When the cat chooses to ignore the litter box, you need plenty of paper towels - especially if Peabody has one of his explosive diarrhea episodes.

I did, however, give up paper napkins years ago, and we use cloth ones.

We occasionally buy a roll of paper towels and it lasts about two months. It is nice to have around for cat puke and draining bacon when I don't have any extra take out napkins around. I used to use a couple every week for cleaning windows and mirrors, but recently discovered that old cloth diapers work just as well. I've never bought paper napkins, except for holidays or parties.

We use lots of hand towels, for everything. I have two kitchen drawers of them and since I do a load of laundry practically every day, I just throw some in with every load. This would be more challenging if I didn't do laundry so often because they would build up waiting for wash day and I would run out of towels.

I have tried this before but they are back in our house but we don't use them as much. We use napkins when we eat (paper) also we need the paper towels for when the cat get sick that is what tey are used mostly for or I clean my coffee pot lid with them to catch the grounds that stick to the lid.

We tried giving them up, but I ended up bringing them back. I prefer the half one as well, and use less. I do love the idea of using fast food napkins. I always seem to through so many of them away. Next time I go to Walmart or Target I am going to look for something to keep them in so they are on the counter and accessible.

We have tried here, it didn't last long redface.gif We have a long while ago gone to 1/2 sheets and I have them all pretty much trained, though dh does rebel every now and again and use a ton!

I tried to cut back on my use of paper towels, I put more regular towels in the kitchen and tried using them more, but there are a few messes that I really don't like using regular towels for.  I have a towel hanging by the sink that I use now to dry my hands, and that helps to cut one some.  I tend to reuse my towels as much as I can until they get really dirty, so I will usually have a pile of towels that are waiting to be reused.  I'm not going to feel bad about using them, I don't think I could live without them.
