DIY: My Family Table Topics Kit

I wanted to share the Family Table Topics Kit I made earlier this year.  I started with an index card box and a pack of index cards and dividers.

  • One section is for a one-line summary of what we did that day.  Next year, we will pull out the same card, for example, for 1/14 and write what we did in 2013 on the same one.  As a result, the kit will get more valuable in time.

  • The second section is for conversation starters (for great ideas, visit our conversation starters thread).  If you want, you can write in your family's response.  We don't always do this every day, but after a few months we've got a nice start.

I love that idea! Especially writing down what your family did each day. What a great way to record memories.

Love this idea.  Wish I had thought of something like this when my girls were little.

I agree...and wouldn't it be fun to let the child write it (when they are old enough) so that over time you can see the changes in their handwriting and thought processes, too?  I'm so stealing this idea, Kim!

Yes!  So far dh and I have been doing the writing, but I think we're going to let the kids write once in a while too.

We did a fun variation on table topics for our Easter dinner.  Both sides of the family were at our house.  My daughter came up with the questions, and she wrote them down and taped them to the back of each plate.  During the meal, we went around the room and everyone read and answered their question.  It was great!!  Lots of laughs.

We recently got the Kids' Book of Questions.  This is an AWESOME book for Table Topics, or to keep in your car.
