Do you enjoy foreign films with subtitles?

Dh is always asking me to watch foreign films.  If they have subtitles, I'm usually not interested.  I feel a movie is to sit back and enjoy, not to have to read what everyone is saying.   It's just too tiring.

Last night, I did concede to one of his choices...The Motorcycle Diaries.  It was a pretty good movie, but I still hated to have to read the subtitles.  After about an hour, I did get used to it though.

How about you?  Are you willing to watch movies with subtitles or do you prefer not to?

I have only watched one movie before with subtitles (at least that I can remember). I thought I would hate it, but I got so engrossed in it I didn't mind at all. I wish I could remember the name but it was before I had kids even, but I LOVED it.

I don't mind subtitles. One that comes to mind that many have probable seen is A Beautiful Life. Isn't that in Italian with subtitles?

I kind of like having Closed Captioning on because I don't always catch everything.  In other countries, English movies, whether dubbed or not, usually have subtitles.  I saw things like Harry Potter and Lord of the Rings dubbed in Romanian with English subtitles and I actually understood more of it.

I had a love/hate relationship with that movie.  I just had a hard time handling the sadness of it all.

I like movies with subtitles, fine.  There is a theater, here, that shows foreign films, often.  I really like to go and get out of my own world sometimes.

Ohhhh....then I've seen two (I'm so senile I've probably seen more LOL). I saw that too but didn't remember even that it was with subtitles. I get so engrossed that I just don't notice them anymore. I probably would hate it though if they weren't good quality movies.

I don't mind subtitles at all. As a matter of fact, when I remember those movies, I remember them in English. It is the same with black and white movies; I remember them in color.

One of my all-time favorite movies is Wim Winders' "Wings of Desire." German with English subtitles. I also love Denys Arcand's  "Jesus of Montreal" - partly in French with subtitles and partly in English with French subtitles, although I can follow a lot of the French without them. I prefer subtitles to dubbing.

There is a movie out called A Beautiful Life with subtitles, but I do think everyone means Life is Beautiful.  That was an excellent film and I would watch it again, subtitles and all.

I have a few movies that are in foreign languages and the subtitles didn't bother me. In fact, when it was so late and I had to go to bed I put it in fast forward and read while they did these long monologues lol.
