How do you save money on computers?

How do you save money when buying a computer?

Do you have a certain brand that you prefer and wait for it to go on sale?

Are you able to buy discounted computers from your employer (Ex got free computers for the girls at his place when they upgraded at his work)

Just now got a new laptop - trade-in was the answer.  Gave our old laptop and got $200 for it at Office depot/max not sure. It should work according to the rules.  The only thing it has to do at the store is turn on and that ours did.

My DH is in the computer field, so luckily if something goes wrong he usually can fix it, or upgrade it, or whatever.   When we do get a new one, he usually knows exactly what he wants on them and can then order just those things.  Then he pulls the "working" components off the older ones (which usually are newer then the old computer) and adds them, saving us money.

Did that make sense ??? LOL
