Saving money on contacts?

Do you wear contacts? Where do you get them?

Our Ins. covers only a portion of them (usually equal to 4 boxes through the eye dr). Luckily both my eyes are the same prescription so I can get away with buying less boxes, same for DD who just started wearing contacts.

I have been using the allowance at the eye dr and then pick up extra boxes at BJ's optical b/c they are only $13.98 per box.

Where do you get yours? Have you ever tried 1-800contacts? were they worth it?

Thanks in advance! smile.gif

I do buy my contacts on-line or a Costco (which was even cheaper). Remember, you don't need a Costco membership to use their pharmacy or eye services.

How do I save money? I buy the disposable contacts and wear them like non-disposables. Non-disposables are something like $80 a pair but disposables are about $20 a box of 6! I break open a pair and wear them, taking them out and cleaning them at night. If I lose one or rip one, no big deal because I always have a spare. I don't have a problem with protein build-up so that helps. I can make a box of 6 last over two years.

I knew you didn't need a membership to use their pharmacy, but I didn't know about their eye services! Thank you!

I do the same thing as Cookie2 I wear mine like non disposables. I can use six months worth for well over a year. It also helps if I'm not leaving the house I leave my glasses on. I can get my monies worth this way and insurance pays for them I only have to pay $10 for six months worth and $20 bucks for a years worth.

Anytime you're in Sam's Club or Costco and they have a 'department' with their own register - pharmacy, eye care, hearing aids, etc - you don't need a membership. Now having a membership might save you extra money, but they have to allow you in to use those services. As a matter of fact, sometimes I don't want to get out my membership card when walking in the door (because I tend to lose it as soon as it comes out of my wallet) so I'll say "pharmacy" and they have to let me in without seeing the card. Of course, I pull out the card later when I'm checking out.
