Do you feel you need to have an activity or craft planed every day during the summer? - Page 2

It may not be something big, but we usually do something every day, just to get out the house to break up the day. It's as simple as walking to the neighborhood park, having a swim lesson or going to the library.  We all enjoy it and being out for an hour in the morning still leaves plenty of time to play in the backyard, etc all afternoon.

Realistically, between 3 weeks of swim lessons, gymnastics and soccer camp, being out of town for almost 2 weeks, weekly visits to a warmer pool, our zoo pass and local amusement park pass, and play/park/beach dates, we don't have too many days with absolutely nothing to do, really just a few weeks that are spread out over the summer break.

That was how I saw it too.

This is pretty much my philosophy too.  I love to see what they come up with on their own.  Last summer, it was all about putting on plays in the garage with the neighborhood kids.  Priceless!

This is me as well.  I have something planned for just about every day.  Actually on my calendar I have the weeks ds has summer classes, etc. and then on the "down" days I will write in "Zoo", "Aviary", "Art Museum" etc.   I don't usually actually do the thing that day, but I will usually do those things that 'week'.  It just gives me some ideas so I'm not just sitting there stumped what to do.  Of course, if ds is with friends, or has a friend over, then that activity will just get shifted to a different week.  I am definitely a planner, and having a full summer calendar of ideas feels a lot better than looking at all that white space.  If we had family, lots of friends etc. here I'd be more "loose" with my scheduling and wing it if I knew friends/family would be calling right and left to do things during the week.  As it is, if I don't plan it, we don't do anything.

This is our summer. My kids have a blast just hanging out in the back yard, though I often try to get a swimming trip in the afternoon.

I also look at summer as a time we can do things we don't get to do during the school year.  I don't get to take them to the zoo, museums, national parks etc during the school year.
