Do you take OTC allergy medicine? What kind? and how do you save money on it?

All 4 of us take allergy meds in the spring and early summer- DH, DD and DS can take the generic which saves us some money but it does NOTHING for me- I finally found that Claratin works well for me, but it gets expensive frown.gif

I just bought a store brand that equated to Claratin for DD and Dh.  It was only about $4 for a month of pills.  It had the exact same ingredients so I couldn't see why I should spend more just for the brand name.  Now, I'm not sure if it works as well yet.  I'll have to get back to you after the month is over.

store brands!!! If you can't use the store brand, there are usually coupons available. If you don't see any online, write to the company and tell them how their product is the only one that will work for you and will they please send you some.

Costco generic equivalents. Costco carries Allegra and Claritin at a discount, but they also have generic versions. I use the generic version of zyrtec - I think they call it Aller-tec.

Same here, I use Allertec every day year round for a skin allergy, so that would get really expensive in name brand, the Allertec bottle has 365 tablets, so one bottle lasts a whole year for me.  It's been a while since I bought the bottle I am using, think it's about $15 a bottle?

I buy the Sam's Club brand equivalent of Claritin. I get 400 pills for 12.98. That is about a year's worth here. I have to take it every day and my DS takes them when needed.

We don't buy any of that allergy medicine in our house, but we all have mild allergies.  I heard from someone a long time ago that eating local honey is a good remedy.  So far it seems to work in our house.  Just stir some into a cup of tea or eat a spoonful every day.  The logic makes sense.  I mean if the honey is made from local pollen and you are slowing getting your body used to it before it's bombarded during the spring...well..it just makes sense that it would work.  Either way it's worth a shot.

Question for Costco shoppers....do you need a membership card to buy OTC allergy meds? (I know pharmacy you don't but are OTC allergy meds considered part of the pharmacy, or part of general store?)

Thanks!

Sales and coupons. I have a large supply of Allegra and Claritin, all for $0 out of pocket.

At my local Walmart they have an 88cents section near the pharmacy. I buy 2 kinds of allergy medicines  there. They have a green box that is comparable to Zyrtec and they have a hot pink box that is comparable to Benedryl. I just hope it's not made in China.
