I-Spy bottle (picture)

Here is a great idea for a simple toy for toddlers and even older kids (read on for ideas!)

A Homemade I-Spy toy: 341

All it took was an empty water bottle, some rice, and a handful of small items we had lying around (a stray crayon, a rubber band, a flag sticker, seashell, starfish, a penny, 2 different colored paperclips, a googly eye, a snowflake (scrapbook), a balloon (also scrap foil). You can really use anything you can fit into the bottle!
(I tired to shake as many items to the top of the rice as I could just for the picture...harder than you'd think! wink.gif )

It took me under 5 minutes to put it together.

For little kids, it is the perfect I-Spy game, for older kids- combine it with a timer and see how long it takes them to find whatever item you name, or all of them or see how many items they can find in 10 seconds, etc....the possibilities are only limited by your imagination!

Have fun!

my kids made these 1 year inVBS, tho they used sand.

For older kids you could also make two exactly the same (if you have two kids, that is) and have them race to find the item you mention.

We make a similar one at preschool, we use peanut butter jars and mayo jars.

My mom has made a couple of those, I think I should make one, I think the 3 year old is old enough for that now.

I'm going to do one for the kids with sand, shells, & shark teeth (you can find the baby shark teeth all over the shores down here!) this summer!
