Sealing Drafts

Preventing drafts through windows in doors can save a lot of energy and money.  Do you caulk your windows?  If so, how often do you need to?  Do you use door drafts?  Do you have any other tips to share?

Last year I used weather stripping around the outside doors.  We have central air for the downstairs (can't afford to do the upstairs yet).  I bought filters for all the grates and magnetic strips for the intake. I also close all the grates in the winter.  I started doing this when I read that the air ducts can conduct drafts. I do replace the filters every spring so the dust doesn't come flying up when we turn the air on.

We use weather stripping in the doors and a draft guard on the slider in the fall/winter. I make sure and keep the fireplace sealed up unless it is in use. And for windows- we just used (painters) tape along the bottom one year and last year we did the plastic over our kitchen windows- they are over 20 years old and original to the house and in NEED of being replaced smile.gif
