Tacky or practical?

I just got a birthday invite for a two-year that included when and where the party is and a list of items that the birthday child needs, wants for his birthday.

In your opinion, tacky or practical?

Maybe a mixture of both. Were they specific like he only wants one of these exact 5 toys? Or more generic suggestions like he's into cars, Elmo, etc where you could buy what you wanted to do with cars of Elmo? I know for me, I usually called the parents and asked them what sort of things they were into before I shopped. So to me as an attendee it would have been a help, although I certainly never would have done it as the party giver. If they were specific toys or items then I do think it's tacky (although still not as tacky as our relative I posted about that said, bring money, or bring money, because we don't want anything but money so don't bring anything else rolleyes.gif)

Examples,
Summer clothing, boys, size 2t.
Outdoor play equipment.
Money for summer passes at the local museum and a zoo.

I am personally am torn. Yes, it was useful but, on the other hand, it is something I have never done and would never do.

Now I think about it, he's two, he probably gets into those places for free anyway. So I suppose the passes are being bought for the parents.

Oh "and gift cards are always welcomed" was how the invite ended.

I think it's tacky.  Practical, yes - but if I wanted to know I would have asked.  What if a guest already had something purchased that wasn't on the list?  Imagine how that would make them feel.

You don't mention gifts on an invitation. Period.

Tacky to the point where I might even decline the invitation.
