Good Grief. But then again I can't believe the school has a policy that students won't get punished until they got caught the second time.

Hmm wonder where the kid learns his behavior. Kid cheated, school rule is ridiculous, but dad should have gotten upset at his kid for cheating.

I actually don't think the school rule is ridiculous--he plagiarized by submitting someone else's essay.  That's a serious offense and something the schools teach not to do from a very young age now.

Dad is being ridiculous.  I don't believe he was kicked out of school--just out of the honor's class.  My kids have taken honor classes and if they had done something like this, I would support the school.

The kid screwed up, the kid was punished. End of story. The dad suing the school because his son broke the rules is ludicrous. Every school I know of has a handbook that goes home with the student on day 1. The handbook is read, a page signed by student and parent indicating it was read, and goes back to school with all the other umpteen pages of signed releases and forms. Actions have consequences. Welcome to life.

Am I the only one that thinks the school system is so messed up, they can't even have 1 set of rules straight? they can't even do that right.

Yes, the kid did mess up and he should have consequences... however, I do think the dad has a point. The school should have only 1 set of rules.

(however, the dad is only using the discrepancy in the rules to help his son, obviously)

First, I want to say honors classes are a privilege not a right. Many school districts treat them like college level courses and hold the kids to a higher standard.

Second, in college, at least mine, there is a zero tolerance policy on plagiarism. A student is supposed to be at minimum failed in that class, at maximum they will be put on academic probation or suspension. Most professors try to help the students out by failing them on that paper and making them rewrite it. Although some students make a habit out of it and are gone quickly.

His son got punished and deserved it. In my opinion this is stealing. You are taking someone's ideas and using them as your own. It would be no different than taking their tv then watching it in your house.

Another example of Queen Bee moms and Kingpin Dads.
