Has anyone done a sleep study?

I'm scheduled to do a sleep study next week, what can I expect?

A lot of sensor pads haha  They'll put them on your head, face, chest, limbs. It can be difficult to fall/stay asleep with them, just because you'll end up pulling on a lead or having one between your head and how you want to lay on your pillow, they do a pretty good job of running the leads under your clothes and keeping them together considering.

They also kept me the following day after seeing some of the initial results of my sleep test. I was 'forced' to hang out in the room and watch tv or read and then take naps. What a tough day that was.

Then I will make sure to bring a book or two.  Thanks!

I had one years ago, pretty much what Karen said about all the cords and it's hard to fall asleep.  Then when I had been asleep they woke me and had me turn on my side to sleep that way.  Don't expect to get a good nights sleep that's for sure!  I qualified for a sleep device, so at one point they woke me to put on the C-Pap machine.  It was hard to sleep with that.  I ended up not getting the machine because I was not so severe, and it was just too loud.  There is a new device I heard about that goes in your mouth that opens your airway to prevent snoring and waking up from sleep apnea, but I will have to have a sleep study done again to get fit for it.  I keep saying I am going to do it, because I think that is why I am always tired, not getting good sleep at night.  Well having a kid that wakes up every day at 4am isn't helping either.

Agree with the tons of leads thing. What I hated is they MAKE you go to bed fairly early. I'm a late night person so I never wanted to go to bed then. They will have you go to bed, and then if they see a problem they will come in to put a CPAP machine on you to see if that helps with the problem. They'll also wake you up pretty early to take everything off, even if you're still sleeping because they want to finish up and get out of there. At mine there was a "community" TV you could watch for a while, but then just alone in your room to read or whatever. You won't have that much time as they do come in and put the leads etc on. For me the worst part was just KNOWING that someone was staring at me and watching me sleep. You can't see them, but they can see you.

Hmmm I didn't feel rushed at all. They put the sensor pads on me, tested all the leads, and I stayed awake and read for a little bit until 10pm, which is what time I said I normally went to sleep. I was slated to be woken up at 6:30, but due to what they were seeing with my sleep pattern they actually let me sleep and woke me up at almost 8 instead. I was sleeping, but just hanging out at very light stage 1 sleep all night long, which isn't restorative. At 6:20 I dropped way down into stage 3 and stage 4 sleep so they felt bad for me and left me alone lol

the leads drove me nuts when i had it done at 21...did not feel rushed when i did mine. wear comfy and warm jammies as i found the room to be really cold and they only give you one blanket( well they did me anyway). i brought my own pillow. and bring a book or two.

I must be the only one the leads didn't bother. They put them on, then once I laid down and got comfy they just didn't really bother me. If people are referring to me saying I felt rushed, I guess I don't see where I said that. I just said they woke me up early as their shift ended at a certain time and they wanted all the patients out of there.

Test went well.  I thought all those wires would bother me as I sat there getting wired for sound.  They didn't seem to bother me though.

I thanked the nurse for a cup of coffee this morning, she said, 'you're awful perky this morning for someone who had a horrible night of sleep.'  At least now I know I'm not crazy!
