Laundry Room Storage

We recently moved our washer and dryer to a different side of our laundry to make better use of our space.  However, now we are left with a blank wall.  We've priced custom cabinets, but those are REALLY expensive!  I'm beginning to look at the idea of wall units, or even closet organizing shelves.

What are your ideas?  I want to have a place to put things like laundry soap, toilet paper, etc. but don't want to spend a ton!  Thanks for your help!

Dh just put up cheap cabinets from Home Depot.  He also hung a rod from the side wall to the cabinets (the cabinets didn't take up the whole wall) so I could hang clothes for ironing. I do love having a place to store all my cleaning supplies--I just wish I had a bit more space.

Do you have an IKEA near you? They have some of the BEST Storage solutions ever! If not, I'd just get some of those wall units from Lowes or Home Depot and customize it myself. I love playing around with shelving and organizing!

Here is the blank wall in my laundry room. Our laundry room is kind of ridiculous and is easier to use for storage than it is to do laundry. We bought this shelf at Walmart for $50 or $60 - it's something like this: http://www.walmart.com/ip/Whitmor-Supreme-5-Tier-Shelving-System/4433073

I think white shelving like you'd see in closets looks good too.  Maybe one up a little higher but still low enough to heft your laundry detergent up there would be good.  Often you can buy them with the white rod too so you can can hang some clothes from there.  In our laundry area we only have a really small space to hang anything, so dh bought a shower rod, sawed it down, and put up two brackets to hold it.  It is stainless steel so it looks sort of 'modern' but it was really inexpensive.

I've seen nice little baskets at the Dollar Tree and Target that are more like fabric "trays" that can hold your fabric softeners, and that kind of thing.

I totally agree to needing more space!  How doesn't?!?!  But great idea!

We don't have an IKEA nearby!  The closet one is over 6 hours away....but I've been to 2 of them in the past year, so I have a great love for that store!
:)

We ended up doing wall/closet units from Home Depot.  Just got them this morning, and hope to have them up this weekend.  Thanks for the ideas!!

It all depends on what your needs are?  Are you going to want adjustable shelving over time?  Do you want to look at the items or not?  Do you want something permanent on the wall or something you might want to move or take with you if you move?

My suggestion is to write a list of your needs, then look at possible money saving alternatives.  If there is a store nearby where you can get discounted cabinets like someone decided to redo their kitchen and sold their cabinets or the cabinets are seconds you might be able to get what you are looking for.

You might try freecycle.org. I found free office furniture a couple of years back; it isn't quality and there are some dents and things but it works for DH and I until we can afford better furniture.
