31 Days of RAKs: Day One

It's the first day of the Mommysavers 31 Days of RAKs project, and I'm pretty excited about it!  I just did my first RAK.  I hope you all take a minute to do something above and beyond what you normally do and come back and let us know what it was.  Let's inspire each other!

UPDATE:  I just created a Random Acts of Kindness Facebook page as well.  Please join us there too!

31 Days of RAKs:  Day One

My daughter has been wanting to go to Disney World for quite some time now.  She had a Disney World vacation book checked out of the library that needed to be returned today.  Before I returned it, I tucked a $1 bill inside along with a little note.  It was quick, frugal, and very easy.

Cost:  $1

Time:  2 minutes

I gave words of encouragement to some people in class today. They were feeling really nervous about the final exam.

Wow, now that I have this on my mind, I noticed so many opportunities today!

  • My kids made about a million old-people friends at the pool today.  I held the door twice, and the Dalton was his usual charming self.  That boy could make a rock smile.
  • I picked up some straws for MIL when I was at IKEA
  • not really random, but I rearranged my schedule to babysit for a friend this afternoon

I told my co-worker that i'd give her an OTTERBOX cover for her i-phone that my DH is no longer using.   She's ecstatic about it as she needs one next week before her Disney trip & now she doesn't need to buy one.

The autistic boy that I have in the afternoons was in a really foul mood this morning so I took him for the other gal this morning.

Sounds like a charmer!  I love your quote, "That boy could make a rock smile."

After I posted, I did a couple other things.  At the grocery store, I left a can in the food shelf donation bin (normally, I may not have done that).  Also, we made May Day baskets.  I was buying the supplies at Target and the cashier said, "These are cute baskets.  They remind me of May Day!"  I told her that's what they were for, and when I was done with the transaction I said cheerily, "Happy May Day!" which I may not have normally done.  It was nice to see her smile.

I kept forgetting we were doing this and I know that this challenge will help me make doing RAKs come naturally.   I was able to get one in today thanks to DH.  I was out running and he texted me that a big storm was coming (possible tornados).  So I crossed another running in my path and relayed his information since the storm was coming out of the blue.

Tomorrow I hope to do better.

My RAK today was making May Day baskets too for my nieces.  My Mom invited me to bring the girls to her house to get a May Day basket from her, so I thought it would be nice to make a couple for my nieces too.  I knew my mom was putting candy in her baskets, so I filled them with mostly non candy items.

I used scrapbooking paper that I had in my stock and filled them with items that I had gotten after Easter on clearance, so it was virtually free.

I drove down & spent the day with my mom in the hospital (as she recovers).  I had brought a bag of snack size candy bars for the car ride & for her but since it was May Day, we made little baskets out of the cups in her room & shared them with the nurses and other patients on the floor.  smile.gif
