How to organize a freezer

There was talk last week about organizing your fridge, so I bought a couple bins from the dollar tree, I started with the freezer, I don't have a before, but lets just say I threw out a lot of food that had freezer burn and had a hard time closing the door.  You probably can imagine.  This is so much nicer and now I know what is in there and can use it before it goes bad.

Total cost: $2 for two bins from Dollar Tree

But here is the after...

Very nice.  I like to get bins from the Dollar Tree. They have a large selection.

I ended up going to two stores that day (not because of the bins) the first store didn't have a big selection, but I thought these would work.  The second store I went to had more choices, but I already got those.  I need to make another trip and get 4 more I think for my refrigerator.

That's a great idea!!

good idea! When I was in college, my roommates and I each had a bin in the fridge. It did keep things more organized.

That looks great!  Way more organized than my freezer!  Way to go!

I thought this was a great idea and finally got around to doing it yesterday.  What a difference!  I used some old shoebox size plastic containers I bought for DS14 to keep his toys organized in.  Now that he is older, those containers weren't being used.  One has all my quart size bags (i.e. homemade chicken broth, refried beans, and I made up bags of the ingredients for homemade vanilla ice cream).  The other one has all my bags of frozen fruit.  I think I will do another one for frozen veggies.

Thanks so much for posting!

Glad you liked the idea, you should post a pic of your freezer makeover.  My freezer is still organized.  I was going to do my fridge, even bought the containers, still haven't gotten around to it.

Here are some things we do to organize our chest freezer:

We group similar items together in boxes (frozen pizzas in one, frozen veggies in another, meat in another).

I freeze juices, stocks and other things flat.  That way, when they're frozen I can line them up neatly like this.
