what do you do to help yourself get happy again?

I usually look at my kids scrapbooks when I am down. If I am mad I usually give my friend a call to vent it out. Once I speak the words I almost immediately feel better.

I don't tend to stay mad or unhappy very long unless there's some major thing going on. Arguments with people I'll be over in a short while. Last night I was in a foul mood. The "princess" who was acting like a spoiled princess had me practically foaming at the mouth. Then I watched American Idol and Joshua sang a motown song and he and the backup people even did some motown moves and by the end of the song I was smiling and happy as can be. So I suggest motown and dancing!! biggrin.gif

I make the rest of the day easy on me. I was in a down mood yesterday, our cars keep breaking down, ds was being obnoxious, and everything was just catching up to me. So, I went for a walk before dh left for work, blew off afternoon chores and had a playdate with a friend and made hot dogs for dinner, which everyone likes.  The kids were happy, which helped my mood, and I gave myself a break.

I really rarely get down, not that I'm the most positive person all the time wink.gif but I'm usually on a pretty even keel.  But a few weeks ago I just felt - down for a few days.  I then went for a really long, physical walk and all the way there I kept saying that what nonsense it was that exercise makes you feel better - because it never has for me.  However, by the time I got home (walked about 3.5 miles) I felt SO much better!

Use to be when I was done I would want junk food, but after last month's walking challenge I find walking does the trick. Especially that long 3.5 mile walk. I put my headbuds in turn the music up loud and enjoy the walk. When I am angry venting helps a lot, although when there is no one to vent to, just having some time alone helps where I can think about what has made me angry.

I have noticed for me that a good run or long walk helps put perspective on things.  Listening to up beat music also helps.

I have been in a bit of a funk lately nd am trying to shake it. I got to sleep in today, and I know I needed the extra sleep, plus more time praying and appreciating all I have really helps.

I'm used to battling through 'sadness' on a daily basis, so I don't know how I'd describe that....suck it up? haha

If I'm sadder or more depressed or melancholy than usual I'll usually grab an animal to destress and get myself back on track. Alone with my own thoughts isn't good and I don't want to subject a foul mood onto my kids, so I try to keep everything moving forward without leaning on any person.

A bad or grumpy mood is extremely rare for me and is usually the result of a direct problem that I deal with in that moment to fix, thereby alleviating any reason to be upset.
