Same here. There were some of those residents I fell in love with and will always remember.

I quit when I found out I was pregnant and went backache couple months after he was born, but I had extremely high risk pregnancies and spent 5 months on bed rest.

I did a zillion years ago. When I was in nursing school I worked in one in the summers. Very hard work physically (I wasn't an RN yet so just worked as an aide for pay) and I was disheartened with the level of care. There were so many patients per aide that you were just rushing and doing the minimum practically to get done by the end of the day. Once I got more organized I could get done, but it still just seemed like such rushing to get done and I always wished I could do more. The patients who couldn't talk were the saddest to me. And I had a fairly young person with a degenerative disease whose family had put him in there and that was really sad too since he was so young and still mentally alert.

Where else do you do clinicals? Do you get to do any in hospitals?

Yes. Working as a nurse's aide was one of my first jobs. I did it for about 3 or 4 years. I got to the point where I either needed to get my head around the long-term ramifications of the job (you really do have to become somewhat heartless toward the patients) or quit. I quit. Luckily I had other career plans.

I believe so when I get to the nursing clinicals this was just for the STNA license my college requires us to have before we can start nursing clinicals. I agree with you on  how rushed the care with the patients is, that was what I found most disturbing! I had to feed this lady in her room and our supervisor was telling us that if we actually worked there we should of had so many patients done in that time. They also used lifts to get some of the people out of bed, it just seemed kind of like torture to me that they hang by their arms on these lifts, sure it makes it easier to get them out but it sure looks painful. I spent my last day in the dementia unit, that was really sad
