Shade plants

I'm trying to spruce up our front flower beds and I would like more color instead of just all green, however, we have two huge shade trees in our front yard so the beds only get full sun about 2-3 hours a day.  Right now I currently have Live Forevers, Monkey Grass and Hostas.  Can anyone suggest any flowering plants that will thrive well in shade?

I have impatients in the front that grow beautifully on only a few hours a day of sun. Those might be worth looking into. And there are several different types of hostas that look so pretty when you mix n match them in beds...that might be another way to go too! Good luck!

I have a lot of columbine out front, but the ones that are doing really well are the ones that popped up on their own in the driveway crack by the garage door - those are huge, flowering, and are in full shade. Also, astilbe does really well in shade & flowers in many other colors. These are both annuals.

Green with white flowers - soloman's seal, jack in the pulpit, lily of the valley. But, again, after those bloom, you'll just have the green. Bleeding heart as well - pretty red/white flowers, but then green after. Again, these are perennials.

As far as flowering annuals go for shady areas, I generally go with impatiens.

Thanks for all the suggestions!!

I'm just tired of the same old stuff.  I prefer to do mostly perennials since they are lower maintenance.

We bought a few hostas (mainly green) but 3 of them are about to produce flowers so I am excited about having color in our flower beds finally!!
