Yesterday when my daughter and I were walking dogs at the Humane Society, we inquired about other volunteering opportunities. We discovered that there was a litter of kittens that came in without a mother. They were about four weeks old and needed to be bottle fed every 4-5 hours until they could eat on their own and be put up for adoption with the other kittens at the shelter. Both my daughter and I really wanted to help out in this way, but we knew it was something that we'd have to discuss with Dad first.
After much research, emailing with the Humane Society director asking questions about what the job entailed, and most importantly getting Dad's approval, we got the green light. We picked up the litter of four kittens today and fed them via syringe and cleaned them up. We plan on fostering them for two weeks.
I'm sure I'll be posting lots of pictures to come, but this is my favorite of the litter (so far). While this is a big commitment, we're loving being able to cuddle them and give them the attention they need. The shelter employees told us so many times how helpful this would be to them.
