U-pick places?

We have a lot of U-Pick places close by here; strawberries, peaches, apples...etc. They are always more per pound, but I like the fact that I never have to throw any out of being bad. I am not sure the are worth the cost difference, what do you think?

I love the u-pick places because I get to choose what fruit I get. I know that I am getting the freshest, ripest fruit that I can. I don't mind paying more for quality.

There is a great website to help you find u-pick places as well. It is http://www.pickyourown.org. I use them to help me find places to pick as well as find out what is ready to pick at different times. The great part is that it also have instructions that are easy to follow for canning and freezing the fruits and veggies you are picking.

I wish they weren't so expensive they are about 3 times the cost of the store around here at least. I just checked and a large bucket of strawberries is $17 well that is what the 2011 prices were so I would assume it could be more now. The smaller baskets are 8.50 so I will stick to Costco if I need a lot of berries or the farmers market or grocery store other times.

You could always sneak in after dark. Want to know what's better than a fresh picked strawberry? A forbidden fresh picked strawberry. ROTF.gif

We go once in the summer for strawberries and once in the fall for apples. Because of the cost, we really do it for the experience. The rest of the time for strawberries, I buy large flats of berries from costco. They have the best price around, even better than farmer's markets.
