31 Days of RAKs: Days 16, 17 and 18

How is everyone doing with the 31 Days of RAKs project?  Is it hard for you to do one thing every day?  I'm finding that some days It's easy to do 2 or 3, other days it's challenging to do one (especially if I don't leave the house much).  I am trying to have the opportunities come to me spontaneously, rather than planning them out.

Day 16

Yesterday, we brought home another foster cat.  This is Flower.

The Humane Society staff suggested we bring her home to keep our foster kittens warm and clean. Her own kittens were recently adopted. We hope that she "adopts" these as her own so they continue to thrive! We now have SIX cats in our house. I'm so thankful that my husband is being a good sport about all of this.

I also made chocolate cookies with peanut butter chips.  Yum!  We brought some to the neighbors across the street, and some others to the neighbors next door.

Yesterday I held the door open for a women.  She started to run so I wouldn't be standing there too long and I always wonder how much of an RAK that is if the person feels obligated to run.  smile.gif  I did tell her to take her time--that I was in no hurry.

This morning I let a car turn into a parking lot in front of me.  Traffic was horrible and no one was letting him go.

Monday we took a large bag of Twizzlers to share at the ball park.  Lots of smiles!

Also picked up a ball glove to turn in to lost and found.  Noticed the name on the glove and found the family to save them some panic.  That was one grateful little boy!!

Yesterday we took a couple of kids home to save their parents a trip.

I was all for this when it was first mentioned, but I find I am really struggling with it.  I am one who doesn't go out very much and have two young kids to deal with.  I wish I knew my neighbors better, would love to bake something and bring something to them, but I just don't know them well enough to do that.  I think instead of trying to do an RAK every day in May I am going to stretch it out into the following months and if I have an opportunity do something nice.

It's harder than I thought it would be too.  This is a good thread (RAKs for Days You Don't Go Anywhere) for the days you don't go out (that was one of my challenges as well).

I say bring some treats to your neighbors to break the ice!  One small gesture is a great way to get to know each other better.

I am having a hard time too.  But this challenge is making me more aware of being nicer.  Although I haven't done the kind of RAKs I had hoped to, I am concentrating on being a more patient person (especially in the car).  I think the more we try to do this, the more natural it will become.

I've learned to bring extra food to play dates etc, especially treats or strawberries, to share.

One thing I've started doing is using my paper towel to wipe off the sink after we use it.  My kids have to lean over the sink to wash their hands and if the counter is wet, they get wet sometimes, so I'm sure other people have that problem too.

Also let a car in during traffic tonight.

My son's school has a really old, frayed flag.  It has always bothered me that they don't get a new one.  I contacted the principal and asked if we could donate one.  I ordered it on Amazon yesterday and it should be in just in time for Memorial Day.  I think my son will feel pride in knowing we were the family that donated the flag when he goes to school every day.  :)
