My hens laid eggs yesterday! I am SO excited! This is the first batch of them! There were a total of 4 (we have 5 hens) and one was cracked, I think one of them stepped on it. I went out this morning to check on them and I interrupted one of my ladies as she was trying to lay one so I will check on them when I get home today!

Kinda shocked because we were told they wouldn't lay eggs til close to October but I am happy with the early results!

Very cool! My ducks started laying last month and that is pretty cool too. Their shells are so much thicker than the chickens. And the ducks seem to lay wherever the mood strikes while the hens find a nest.

Melsb....do you sell your eggs? I am debating on what to do with so many since there are just 2 of us and 5 hens.

My household runs anywhere from four to ten people, I sometimes have to buy my eggs. But I know many people who sell them. On the rare times I have too many eggs, I usually give them to my neighbors that enjoy my chickens, meaning the woman behind me, she gets nothing. Lol.

did you like eating duck eggs?

I had one once and didn't care for it, but maybe I should give it a go again.  I cannot WAIT til the day we are "settled" and I can have ducks and chick....

Taste wise I don't notice a difference. They are a darker yellow and are supposed to have more nutrients. The only thing that bugs me about the duck's eggs? Their shells are much thicker than the chickens and I have to pay attention, when I am cracking eggs and adjust how hard I hit them because after cracking a couple of ducks eggs, I almost smash through the chicken eggs.

I'll give it another go then!
