Now to the people on the show that do it for a good cause, that is a different story but still I think that show promotes more towards the wrong end of couponing!

Same here. I've been told by shoppers and store staff that if I'm like those people on TV. I tell them NO, I shop for what my family needs and nothing more. Often times I just leave coupons by products so that others can take advantage. I don't clear shelves or have the space to have 100s of products. That show is all for entertainment, they've ruined the good thing that comes from couponing.

Since I started buying all my groceries one month at a time I have been taking my household binder with me. I have my lists in there adn my menu. My lists are what I need, what I am pricematching and where. I have my menu to see if I can modify some things if I don't like the price. I have pocket dividers in there and I stash my few competitors ads in there. I got the comment "oh, you're one of those" a couple of times. Like I was doing something horrid when in fact I think I only had 2 coupons that day! I am just organized. Who in Gods name (other than possibly the Duggars) need 50+ bottles of laundry soap? I buy a bottle every couple of months. Some things I buy a ton of on sale, planning to have enough until the next time it goes on good sale like ketchup and BBQ sauce. Getting more than that seems crazy.,

I had a woman do a program at the library where I work last Saturday called Couponing 101.  I didn't actually get to listen to the program since I was still working, but I did get to chat with her as she was setting up.  She said that she turned down being on the show for the 2nd season, and then they called her again for the 3rd so she sent in a tape.  She said that she doesn't really fit into their pattern though because she doesn't do the huge stockpile of stuff that she can never use & has no need for.  She thought it would be nice if the show focused more on those who donate the excess products they get through couponing to charities.  I might have to try to keep an eye on the show, and I'll watch it if she's on it, but otherwise I tried watching it once and had no desire to see it again.

People who are approached to do the show have to beef up their stockpile to be on film.  Another reason why the show is fake.

I met Treasure, who is from my area and was on the show the first season.  (She was the one who was 'dusting' her stockpile)  We had an interesting conversation when I attended one of her couponing classes 'for fun'. LOL  I wanted to see what she was doing that I wasn't doing and why she was so successful at it.  Turns out, she wasn't doing anything much different than me, other than just devoting more time to it.  She had a HUGE stockpile, and shortly after the show aired, her husband lost his job at Pfizer.  They ended up living off what she made from her framing business, and her couponing classes.  Turns out, she stockpiled SO well, they were able to live off that for 6 months without having to shop for anything other than fresh foods.

She kept saying the producers kept asking for stuff, sensational stuff.  She couldn't really give them anything because thats not her.  She is a mom who coupons, thats it!  Well the dusting came about because  went to wipe something down, and they asked her to start dusting her stockpile.  She laughed to herself and said after 2 days of filming, she realized she hadn't given them much of 'anything'. so she decided to go ahead and give them something.  SO she picked up her feather duster and dusted her stockpile.   We laughed and laughed over this story.  She made a point to tell us, she never dusts her stockpile. Ever.

In the end, Treasure ended up moving about 6 months ago somewhere down south, I think VA.  I havn't kept up with her, I don't know if she is still couponing. I do know she hasn't really been blogging much at all, I never get an update from her.

Here is another article that includes former couponers from the show who are speaking out against it.  I think TLC must have had a confidentiality clause that recently ran out.

You would think the stores would stop allowing the show to film there after all the negative publicity.

It's pretty clear that the stores will accept these coupons and break the rules just for the free publicity the show offers.

Exactly! Our Lowe's Foods went public with the reason they wouldn't participate- they will not condone fraudulent coupon usage...even for a TV Show...I have a lot more respect for that store now!

That blog is interesting, she really really dislikes that show and blogs regularly about thier horrible practices.  Here is another one!

I think this is another example of WHY I don't like 'reality tv' since it's not really REALITY!
