Are you keeping their backpack and reusing it next year? - Page 2

Three years ago I bought a Trans by Jansport backpack from Target for dd.  It's held up well to my dd overstuffing and abusing it.  At the end of the school year, I noticed a hole starting at the bottom, so I think this backpack will head into a gentle retirement doing light-duty hauling (hiking, sleepovers, etc.).  Hopefully Target will have more Trans backpacks this fall so dd can get a fresh one to abuse. lol

M used a little school bag instead of a backpack. I think I already got rid of it, so I'll have to buy her a backpack.

Definitely!!  I have all our other backpacks, I do use them for storage and for trips.  I just wash them in the washer.  This one though has wheels so I don't think I will when it gets time for a new one.  I'll just wipe it out and use it as luggage.

My boys have been using their LL Bean backpacks for several years and they are still in perfect shape. However, my oldest has informed me that his is not "grown up" enough for junior high and he would like a new one.

Funny, just the other day, ds told me he would just use his backpack again next year (it is a nice one, but I only paid $17 for it at costco) . dd's is in bad shape, it was a "cheap" one (character one), so it will be thrown when she gets home from school on the last day and she will get a new one in Aug

I usually buy a couple on clearance in the fall after school starts (for $3-5) so my girls have a few choices during the year, and switch them up every couple weeks to take a "new" one.  Because they switch so often they really don't wear out (I think we have 7 or so in rotation, not including my oldest's). We still have some that are 7+ yrs old.  However, once they do wear out....in the garbage they go.  We don't keep them.

Our lunch boxes are like that too ~ we still have one that my 16 yo took when she was in kindergarten!  I've just washed it everyday, and because we have so many, they never really get worn, torn, or gross.

Good for her!  I already had a talk with dd9 about keeping her bag instead of getting a new one.  I was very impressed that she was fine with reusing it.

Of course you have them all... we have to keep ALL the bags

Usually ours only last about a year.  Our school requires the clear backpacks and they just don't really hold up that well.
