Do you let your dog sit on your lap while you are driving? - Page 2

My beagle is way the heck too big so no. Puma my kitty does sit in my lap. He is a weird cat and actually enjoys being in the car as long as he isn't in a carrier. He just lays down and rides quietly. We never go far, maybe a mile in my neighborhood, not on any major streets with traffic.

My dogs outweigh me ROTF.gif

No way...my lab is 70 lbs and I think it's unsafe no matter how big or small they are.

We have seat belts for our dogs. If it is just me in the car I hook them both in the front seat. They are Italian Greyhounds and very small. LOL! Otherwise they get put in the back seat, one on each side of Ds.

More likely flying out the open window they're leaning out of!  I can only assume people take their dogs everywhere because they love them, but if you love them, keep them safe. Poor doggies.

I would never have my window open enough for any of my animals to jump out. Our beagle gets his leash seatbelted to the far back seat. That is just as much for my safety because he doesn't get that where my feet are is not a place for him! Didnt' think about the airbag and Puma though. One of the kids can hold him in back from now on.

I have to keep my smaller mutt tied into the seat for that exact reason. He will try and climb out the window to rest his front paws on the side mirror, he get's ridiculously overjoyed to try and hang out of the car. He's not content to just sit or lie down in the car, so tied in is his only option.

As a general rule though, I don't tie them in. They are usually happy to just lie down on the seat or in the back and hang out until we get where we are going. If we take the pickup somewhere there has been occassion where they ride in the bed, and they get restrained for obvious reasons.

We have a big border collie and when we're all in the car on road trips, he rides in the back and dh tethers him so he can't jump over the back seat while we're driving, and if we get in an accident going fast on the interstate he won't fly through the window.

He goes with dh to his surf lessons and rides in the passenger seat with the window halfway down, but it is a short distance.

Nope. He rides shotgun, and he lies down on the seat.
