Not just sad....is that not neglect?  Maybe you can suggest the mom at least pack her a lunchbox each day to have ready for lunchtime?  And that does nothing about the being there alone, inside, all day every day.  That makes my heart hurt.

I know, I just don't get it. And she isn't little-little. She's 11. I can't imagine being 11 and not knowing how to use the microwave! And when I say I was going to teach her how to cook, I meant I'd teach her about safety. I can understand her mom not wanting her to use the stove, but the kid can't even heat up a can of spaghetti-Os.
