Do you pay extra for recycling?

Our county is charging extra for recycling.  I'm assuming since the landill is charging, the trash removal services will also charge.  We take our trash directly to the landfill.  It will be an extra $36 a year for recycling.  Would you pay the extra or throw it all in the trash?

I wish! We have no recycling at all - none, zip, zilch - unless you could metal scrap which seems to be so popular around here that thieves pull the copper wire from houses if they're able. The most we can recycle is food waste because I started a compost bin.

To answer your question, yes I'd pay $36 extra a year to recycle. In other communities where I've lived, I've found that such charges get quickly reduced or eliminated. The county ends up saving so much in landfill fees when the community recycles, they make it mandatory and actually charge people extra if they DON'T recycle.

I'm hoping the charges will be eliminated next year when they realize that people are not going to pay for recycling.

I will pay because I can't bring myself to throw it all in the trash.  It contradicts what I've taught my children.

We have a choice of two garbage companies. One provides recycling services but costs a lot more. I choose to use the other company and haul my recyclables to the recycling center.

that seems like an incentive to give to people to just throw it in the trash!  Hopefully they will realize that.

I would pay extra to recycle, I think, if push came to shove and I had to cut back (which MANY people are having to do) then I would.

Are there not recycle "banks" in town that you can put your plastics in?  I seem to remember at bigger shops like walmart/ grocery chains would have those setting out.

Our rubbish tax is just in the council bill, I am not sure how much of it goes to that.  Council tax is about £140 a month.... ugh

Will they be picking up your recyclables at the curb or will you still have to bring them to the center?   Either way, I would probably still pay because I do try to think of doing things that will make the world better for my own girls.  We pay a fee per month and I know it comes to much more than $36 per year, but they do take it from the curb.

We don't have mandatory recyling. We also don't have curbside pickup for any refuse. We bring all trash to the dump, and we separate recycling and put that in the appropriate areas at the dump ourselves. We recycle to allow the town to make money and in turn help to keep our taxes low. I wouldn't pay for recycling though.

Our recycling cost is free, a trash can is also given to households for free.

I pay $32 every 3 months for trash/recycling.

If I didn't recycle the cost would be the same.

They are removing all the recycling centers so you have to pay a fee to recycle.

The centers are being removed June 30th.

We take our trash directly to the landfill.  We live on a rural road and dh says if he has to haul the trash to the end of the driveway, he might as well take it to the landfill.  We pay for a trash permit.  Extra for big items, you pay per pound.  We will now need a recycling permit.
