Do you pay extra for recycling? - Page 2

Where we live there is no recycling either ~ you have to haul it yourself.   Would I pay extra if they did offer the service?  Honestly.....probably not, especially if I had to separate it.  We just don't have a good useful space to do that.   If I didn't have to separate it, and it all could do into one can no matter what the material ~ then I may consider it.  (How's that for lazy??)

We have paid for curbside recycling for about 25 years. I figure it's a small amount for me to pay to make the world more environmentally healthy for my children. Plus I'm glad I'm not having to haul trash and recycling around.

We take our trash directly to the landfill.  We live on a rural road and dh says if he has to haul the trash to the end of the driveway, he might as well take it to the landfill.  We pay for a trash permit.  Extra for big items, you pay per pound.  We will now need a recycling permit.

So you are paying for a permit to haul it yourself to the recycling center (whether or not it is at the landfill doesn't matter).  I would probably still pay the fee as I stated before--just to help the economy--but I would really resent it.

That really stinks if you are paying to be able to haul it to the recycling center yourself. That will deter most people from recycling and I can understand why. We would pay the fee and continue to recycle, though. I think recycling is a vital skill to teach our children, the amount of waste we generate is disgusting.

We are very spoiled by very comprehensive curbside recycling that includes compost pick up. I recycle about 80% of our waste.  We do pay a monthly trash fee and I'm good with that ($22/month since we use the smallest trash can, people that do not take full advantage of the recycling program and need a bigger can pay much more).

Hopefully as your program gets going it will be adjusted to make it more user friendly.

Our trash pickup is curbside and it includes recycling. I don't think it is a separate fee - it is a company the township has a contract with, we just put our recyclables in one container (paper, plastic, metals), our yard waste in one container, and then our regular garbage in the garbage can. We pay it 4x/year, and it is reasonable.

I pay $32 every 3 months for trash/recycling.

If I didn't recycle the cost would be the same.

Same here only it's $36 every 2mos.  Our town changed trash companies recently and I like the new company.  They take plastics #1-#5 and our prior company didnt take #5's. We dont have to take the caps off of plastic bottles or anything.  They make it very easy.

If we didnt have this, I would still pay for recycling. It drives me nuts when we go somewhere or to someone's house who doesnt recycle.

We pay $3/bag to put out garbage.  We can put out as many bags of recycling as we want for free.
