How do you handle birthday gifts for the kids without going broke? - Page 2

Birthday is usually one bigger thing like a $50 Xbox game and a couple of smaller things. Christmas is about the same, though they usually get money too (about $50) and lots of candy.

Basically we only spend about $40-$50 as we have a gathering for cake & ice cream or sometimes food & cake & ice cream for our families.   Our families are big, so there are usually 25-30 people here (& that's not even everyone).  This year DD2 was saving her money for an i-pod touch, so we paid for the 2 year warranty for it as her gift & she was fine with that.  This way she had some money left.  We usually get them something bigger for a Christmas gift.  It's not about how much you spend, but what you get for them that they may want.
