... fill in the blank.

Here is a story on the radio: http://mpbonline.org/News/article/522mississippi_farmers_closely_watching_farm_bill_vote

Mississippi peanut and rice farmers are watching a Congressional vote on a farm bill. Congress would like to cut $5 Million from the bill by no longer guaranteeing prices for these farmers. They want to cut subsidies.

I realize I should be all for the MS farmers, but it also bugs me that yet again pork can't be trimmed from the bloated federal budget because some small special interest wants to keep their goodies. And as a consumer, I love the idea of having low cost rice and peanuts (two big hitters in our grocery budget). But as a free-market-ist, I want the subsidies to end.

I guess Congress IS trying to address budget issues because lately on the news I've heard "don't balance the budget on the backs of ... (fill in the blank) ..." A few days ago it was family members who provide caregiving services to disabled children and adults that didn't want their subsidy cut.
