How much does it cost to DRIVE to the grocery store? - Page 2

We have a Meijer just about a mile from our home.  I could walk if I felt like (usually don't unless my car breaks down).  I have been known to run out for something.  I used to have a good neighbor who would lend me things that I ran out of, but she moved.  frown.gif

We are out in the country - 2 miles on gravel before hitting the blacktop to be exact! :)  The small town we live 6 miles away from has a grocery store, but prices are outrageous there!  So we usually go to a larger town about 15 miles away that has a few grocery stores and Walmart.  Not to mention I drive a Yukon XL, so it's a gas hog!  We definitely try to plan out our route and grocery shopping - not many times do we make a "quick" trip to get one or two items!

Abbie, you'll have to be my go-to person for rural living advice. We don't live on a gravel road but I have to drive on several to get anywhere. If there is any suggestions you'd like to pass along, I'd love to hear them.

Our usual grocer is a 5 minute bike ride - about a mile. Costco is just over a mile. Aldi and Kroger are further, each about 3-4 miles. I go to the local grocer about every 3 days. I don't do big trips, except for Costco, and I'm always back at the store for fresh fruit, veggies, or some meat for dinner if I forget to thaw something out. But, there is never a line there, and I'm in and out in no time.

We live in the city, so there are grocery stores close by.  But I tend to just have DH stop and pick up what we need on his way home from work.

Thanks for the info on that site, I have been wondering what it costs to drive to the zoo we drive to which is about a 45 min. drive.  Turns out it is $2.62 to drive there.  I suppose that is just the one way, and back would be a total of $5.24, which isn't too bad since we have a membership to the zoo.

I have a pretty good idea how much it costs to get around town. I just tried the cost2drive but it was way under. I know how many gallons of gas it takes to get to the zoo and how much a gallon costs and it was off by about 30%+. I wish it only cost that much. I wish they would let you put in a cost per gallon of gas as I live in an area where gas costs more than most of the US.
