endoscopy and colonoscopy

I have this procedure being done on thursday.... I have had the endoscopy done 6 years ago, but never the colonoscopy.

What should I expect?  I am a bit nervous about it.  It doesn't help that they've given me these laxative drugs that are gonna make me poo my life out of my bottom the day prior  (don't know HOW I am going to do school pick up! )

any advice would be welcomed!

The procedure is very easy - the day before is by far the worst part of it. As I recall with me, most of the day before was a straight liquid diet, and that you don't start hitting the stuff that really cleans you out until later in the day, so school pickup should be fine. It was after 7pm or so that things started happening for me.

My DH had one last year & his in/out recovery was even easier than mine was. I think they gave him a much lighter anesthesia as I was in sleepyland the whole rest of the day, whereas he was fine & active afterwards.

Agreed! The day before is way worse! I had to drink more to really clean out, so I began sometime in the afternoon - but most poeple like Calimari said start later in the day. Just make sure you're home with a free bathroom after you start! Some advice I'd give is to have DH take the kids out to eat for supper or something. That way you can get started without them around.

Also, the procedure isn't bad at all. The only problem I had when having one done is that I was so dehydrated that it took them a few pokes to get my IV in. Otherwise, the rest was a breeze!

Good luck with everything! I'll be thinking and praying for you!

You're having someone drive you there and home, right?

I don't have any advice but wanted to wish you good luck.

I prep the day before the colonoscopy is the worst of it.  I was so nervous about the procedure, but that was totally fine, you don't really feel anything.  I got so sick with all the yucky stuff I had to drink to clean myself out.  My advice for that is if you are supposed to take something and it makes you feel sick, call the doctor (they should have given you a # to call if you have any problems prepping), they will likely tell you something else you can try instead.

Yes, dh took the day off and he is taking me.

They gave me 3 sachets of laxatives to take, one at 7am, 1pm and 7pm.... it states the poops will start within 2 hours. ugh

So basically if I make it thru Wed poop prep I should be ok.  Sorry, I have to have some sense of humor with this, cause I am pretty nervous about it all.  I don't like the sicky feeling, hopefully that won't happen.  Maybe I should give the nurse a call tomo and just voice my concerns about it.

fingers crossed!

Weird. I went to the office & worked a full day the day before mine - I just had to drink fluids & just have things like chicken broth for lunch. Starting at 5 pm, at home, I had to start taking the nasty stuff to clean everything out of me.

That's how mine was too.
