Does anyone have any leads on where to buy a used Medela breast pump?

We have a friend who's 16 year old daughter is currently 8 months pregnant.  She has read and read and read on what is best for baby...and wants very much to nurse her.  She is being realistic, though, and she knows she will need to pump to go to work/school.  I was asked my opinion on cheaper brands..but to be honest, after nursing six kids, I would only recommend the Medela.  I was given mine as a gift (and later passed it on).  I don't even know where to begin looking for a used one.  Ideas?

First check and see if insurance will pay for one, some will.

First I will say that they do not recommend buying a used pump, I read all the warnings and decided for myself it was either a used pump or no pump, so I did decide on a used pump.  I bought mine off of Craigslist.  One thing I would recommend though if she does get a used pump is to get her own new tubing.  Depending on her insurance and circumstances even if it doesn't cover the actual pump, it may cover new tubing.  With DD#1 I borrowed a hospital grade pump from the hospital, it was $25 a week, so she might even want to try that first, see if she is able to do it and if it works out for her.  When I borrowed the pump I was given the tubing.  With DD#2 I bought the used pump and must not have still had my tubing, so I got new tubing and it was covered since I had had a breast reduction and was at risk for not being able to BF.

A LOT of insurances how pay for pumps. (it is so nice). If they do not check out eBay and then buy all new tubing, valves and shields.

WIC offers them. At 16 she may qualify for wic. I think there is a $ deposit but you get it back when returned. You get the machine, but I don't know if you get the tubes, and flanges an such.

Definitely check with her insurance and WIC first, or if there is another social agency to help young, single mothers.

Otherwise, look on Craigslist and local classifieds.  My husband's employer gives a breast pump as a gift to employees when they have babies. Since I got one with M, I sold the second one on the local classifieds.  She should definitely invest in new tubes, etc, but there is nothing wrong with using a used pump - it's just a motor.

I agree with the insurance, I was offered one with all my girls!  I said no to the last two cause I had one from oldest's birth.  Medela is the best, well it worked for me.
