What do you do with your pets while you go on vacation?

With the horses we'd have to have someone come over at least twice daily anyway, so they'd just check on the other animals as well. Depending on the vacation the dogs may be able to come with us.

The cats stay here.  We have only been away a few times.  MIL came over and scooped the box midweek.

Our dog usually goes with MIL but my friend has claimed dog sitting duties if she is in town.  She loves him.

That is one reason we don't go anywhere.

Catsitter comes to the house daily. She feeds them, gives fresh water, scoops litter, brings in our mail/paper, waters plants if I ask her to. $15/day.  She doesn't give the cats meds, though, so they are generally off their meds when we go away. We tried to get a vet tech once to come & give pills, but she wasn't able to do it w/ our cats either.

Someone in the family (our older kids or inlaws) takes care of our dog and guinea big.

We take our dog to the vet.  They do boarding for a reasonable price.

My parents take her. And if we're going to be staying at my parents- then she obviously goes too smile.gif

We just leave our cat alone for the week. we set out a bunch of bowls of food and water and the litter boxes go unscooped until we get home. I'm sure they'd rather have fresh stuff, but they survive just fine. When we had a dog we took her with us. I'd only get places that allowed pets and we loved taking her. The one time we didn't take her, a friend of mine took her. She had animal loving kids who had never had a dog and they loved it.

We can't leave our cats alone because Peabody has to be on a wheat-free diet, or he gets explosive diarrhea. And the only food that works for him is wet food, and you can't leave that out. Plus, Clark is on a special diet as well, but we would skip that if we were going out of town for a few days. So, since Peabody can't have dry food, we have to have someone come to the house. Especially since he's off his meds when we go, then the diet is REALLY important.
