Job Security or being paid more - Page 3

Guess we are little spoiled by hubby's company. With his promotion he received a large raise, all of his gas paid for, his lease car paid for, half of my lease paid for and a larger bonus. Putting most of it towards paying off bills and mortgage though.

Jen, I'm so sorry about the financial arguments you've had with your hubby in the past, but this one post alone helps me understand why those arguments are happening. OMG! TWO leased cars, plus a long commute, plus debt, plus a mortgage that is under water. That's a lot of financial pressure your family is under.

Yes, does sound like you're a bit spoiled. But I would think you might have heard the news the last few years where they're talked about the economic problems in the US? That many people are losing jobs and job prospects are poor? That many people have taken pay cuts? I would think even if you personally are spoiled, that you would be aware that is certainly not the economic conditions for many in the country. Sometimes it's good to be aware of what's going on in the country.

I drove the same car for 12 years. My dh leased one from work. With his recent promotion they gave him a large stipend that pays for all of his lease and half of mine. It also includes all insurance and repairs for both paid by his work. So we only pay $200 a month total for my car and no more insurance payments. His lease is free. I do not think $200 a month total for 2 new cars with all repairs and insurance included is bad at all. It is actually quite frugal. The gas card for his car is a benefit he received with his promotion.

We are putting the money saved from not having to pay for gas and cars plus his raise towards our bills. We plan on being debt free and mortgage free in 4 years.

I know about the economy. My dh has a job in a field where there is a shortage of people so he has security. In a field with this type of demand her husband could easily find a job at a higher wage if he chose to.

She said very clearly that her husband is an engineer. It is a field with a nationwide shortage. Engineers are walking out of college with multiple job offers. If she said he was a factory line worker or a teacher I would have a different opinion.

Gotta give the update because the result was excellent. Hubby is happy in his job and is getting a 10% raise starting next week. Today is my Birthday and I have to say getting that news today has been one of the best birthday gifts I could get.
