Would you wait in line to buy gas?

We just got a Costco card, because we bought our TV there.  I thought I'd get gas there, too - it's $.20/gallon less.  But when I went by yesterday, each pump had 6 or 7 cars waiting! It's not worth even $.20/gallon for me to sit there for 1/2 hour with my car idling and my kids fussing.

I wouldn't wait that long:! I might ask them when their slower times are and try to time my trips then.

just about every time we get gas there is a line up here in town.

the reserve its worse the line ups but its so much cheaper out there that yes we are willing to wait the 15-20 minutes in the line to get it!

Not if I could get it somewhere else--like you I would pay a little extra to save the time.

I'm just remembering the 1970's gas shortage.  No I wasn't old enough to drive, but I remember sitting in the car as my dad waited to fill up.  It was a nightmare and you never knew if they'd run out by the time it was your turn.

Yes - we only get our gas at Costco, unless we are out of town.

They line can build up, and it is definitely busier at some times more than others. Some times I drive by & I see the line is long, so I don't stop. I figure I'll drive by the next day, and then usually the line is very short, or none at all. If I am almost out of gas and HAVE to stop when the line is long, I do so, and it goes much faster than you think.

First off - you can go to ANY pump - it does not matter which side your gas tank is on. The pumps at Costco have really long hoses, so the hose can be pulled around your trunk and to the far side of the car. So, you don't have to restrict your line choice to the one where the pump is on the correct side - you can go to any line.

Second, each line allows for 2 cars, so while the line might be 6 cars long, since they each go to different pumps, it is really like 3 cars long. I think the absolute LONGEST I ever waited - maybe 1-2 times in 5 years, if 10 minutes. Most times I drive right up, or I am next in line. Ask the guy who works there when the peak times are - they will tell you.

Thanks for the tips, Calimari. I did remember that you can use either side, and some lines were definitely shorter.  Unfortunately, Costco is a bit out of the way, but there are several nearby-ish. I'm going to scope them out and see which one is best.

Our Costco is the closest gas station to us, just a mile away, so it's pretty ideal. Plus, the gas purchases add up points on your Costco AmEx card, which go towards the rebate check you get back each year.

I will only wait if one car is there. There are lots of gas stations with the same prices to pick from so I won't waste gas just to sit in a line.

There are very few gas stations I actually go to....[un]fortunately I know what is in most stations tanks.

I'll sit in line to get gas versus going somewhere else to get water or sludge.

I went to a third Costco today and drove around the parking lot and couldn't even find the gas station! My light was on, so I finally gave up and got it elsewhere.
