How much fabric do you have?

Are you a scrap hoarder? Do you buy everything that looks fun?  ROTF.gif

I just unpacked my fabric (ie moved it to a different box). I have a fruit box full of fabric, plus a bolt, plus a pile of felt.  I got rid of all my scraps before we moved, and that cut down most of it.  I actually have nearly as much yarn as I do fabric, now!

I keep all my scraps. Sometimes a couple tiny squares is all it takes for a project. Covering buttons, making hair accessories, small pouches, etc. Depending on the remnant I have left I'll trim a lot down into fat quarters, jelly rolls, or quilting squares though just to have some sort of standard sizing to it. Miniscule scraps I put in a HUGE hurricane vase that I have. It looks cute, and I like pawing through it occasionally to find that perfect little piece for whatever project I may be working on.

I have 3 12x12x12 cubbies full of yardage fabric at the moment, and an underbed tote filled with home decor and outdoor fabrics, plus another tote filled with fleece waiting to be turned into a zillion pairs of lounge pants for Christmas gifts. I'm planning a spare bedroom/storage/pantry/craft room overhaul, and the apparal and quilting fabrics will be ending up on comic book board bolts and on shelving. I also got a free vintage serger (amazing!) that is currently sitting in my garage, so I've got to get that in the house and get that and the sewing machine cranking through my mile long list of projects.

I've also got a yarn problem lol

I did this when I got rid of my scraps. I fussy-cut 4x4 squares and kept those.

I have a few scraps for my DDs barbie fashion toy. My mom on the other hand has 27 large rubbermaid totes of yards of fabric. She can't pass up a deal for a dollar a yard. Wouldn't be bad if she used the stuff. When she needs to make something (for birthday, shower, curtains) she goes and buys new because going through all those totes takes too long!

Oh boy I am embarrassed to answer this questions. I have two large totes, the biggest I could find. One small tote. A dresser full of fabric. One of those two drawer plastic storage cart and a three drawer storage cart. I have a small pile on my craft shelves and a small pile on my sewing table. I do not keep any scrap smaller than a yard because there is nothing I can do with it. If it is a fancy fabric I will send it to my BFF for her crazy quilts. She makes and sells them. She just sold one that was all velvet and brocade with a Dupioni silk backing, mostly from my scraps. LOL!

What do you do with your fabric that less than a yard isn't useful?

If it is a quilting fabric, which I don't have much off, I donate it to the local retirement communities. A lot of the retired ladies make quilts which they donate. If it is not one of my fabrics I send to my BFF I usually just throw it away. Most of the time if it does not fit into those two groups it is hardly worth dealing with. Most of my sewing takes between 8 and 10 yards of fabric, it almost always has to be in one piece. I can use a yard to make a bodice top or something for Ds, and he is out growing the one yard fast. So soon I will probably not keep anything under two yards unless I have something to match it, to make a skirt for the bodice top. I guess I will probably donate those 1 yard pieces to the thrift store, I have not really thought about it much.
