ALDI- the how to's

How do you shop at ALDI?

That is one of the most common questions asked about ALDI.

No, you don't need to know a password or secret knock to get in, but you do need to know these 4 things:

As far as Step 1 I often forget my reusable bags and so then I just find an empty box or two and put my items in those. But I admit that Step 4 is one of my pet peeves with Aldi's. At mine anyway, they just scan and then quickly dump into the cart with wild abandon. They will throw heavy things on top of crackers etc and it drives me nuts. I once even asked the lady to be careful as she was going to crush the things and she didn't even look up.....just kept scanning and throwing. I know it's supposed to make the line move fast so they need less cashiers, but I don't want crushed stuff.

The first time I shopped at Aldi didn't know about the carts and no bags.  Luckily I had a quarter in my pocket.  Also, the boxes they keep out helped me out too.

I always get the paper bags there. When I get them home I empty them, fold them and put them immediately back in my trunk for next time.

I want to add, don't be afraid to try things there! We have loved pretty much every thing we have ever tried from Aldi!!!!

Aliadam, talk to the manager, I have never had that issue at my store, they are fast, but careful.

I'll second that- speak to a manager! I've never had a problem in either one of my ALDI's with it. I try and keep the more delicate things (crackers, or fruits- whatever I don't want smooshed) at the front of my stuff and for as long as I can remember the cashier has always separated it and been careful. Of course I'd also advise if you buy a case of water or something, make sure that goes on the belt somewhere near the front if possible wink.gif

Another tip, instead of following tip #4- I keep a bunch of bags (sometimes laundry baskets, if I remember them) in my trunk, so I bypass the counters and just load the groceries right into the car and "pack" them then smile.gif

My tip at least for your first visit is go in with your entire grocery shopping list. Cross off items that you buy there and get the rest at your usual store. After a few visits you can easily make a list for each. This saves me atleast $150-200 a month.biggrin.gif

Thanks for starting this thread! We just got an Aldi's nearby and I was wondering what it was like. I think I'll give it a try today! (Wish me luck! LOL)
