Have you ever had to change your vacation plans because of weather or other disasters like the fires currently happening in Colorado Springs?

I am 30 minutes from springs and I would suggest changing plans if you are headed here...

No - but we've been camping and hiking in pretty awful weather.  One year we went to Bryce Canyon in April and one hike we tried to do had 4 feet of snow on the trail still.

When we went to Williamsburg, VA, a few years ago we were going to cancel because it was forecasted to be 114 degrees and humid.  We decided to go and it Was 114 and very humid, but only for one day.  The rest of the days were Hot but not that hot!

We did up going to Vegas this past weekend, we cancelled because it was forecasted to be 111 degrees.  After I cancelled a few days later it was supposed to only be 100.  We were bummed, but when it was supposed to be 100 here in Utah the same day, we decided to re-book and go at the last minute.  We don't have air, so we felt at least we'd have air/c those two hot nights!

When we lived in Idaho, winter weather would be more of a reason to cancel rather than summer heat. After all, if it is going to be 115-degrees anyway, might as well go somewhere else. One year we were going to travel to Wyoming to see hubby's family for Thanksgiving. Up north, Thanksgiving weekend can be iffy. The weather can be beautiful or it can be full-on winter. That year it started out seeming like it was going to be clear and dry but the more we listened to the weather forecasts the more we became convinced we had to cancel. In the end, we were so grateful we did. While Thanksgiving day was clear and gorgeous, our drive home would have been nearly impossible - even life-threatening due to snow and ice.

Around here, we're still trying to learn how things work. I've already heard stories of people who were on vacation when a tornado or heavy storm hit - either where they were vacationing or back home or both. That would really suck. Imagine getting stuck in a flash flood while on vacation or trying to vacation while your hotel is filling up with evacuees. Or listening to the news to find out your home may have suffered damage then trying to fight your way back through traffic to get home so you can salvage items before they become moldy.

I was supposed to be flying home to Idaho from California one year when Mt. Saint Helens blew, the second time, not the first. That backed up my flight for a few days.

My stepson lives in Arizona. His wedding took place a few days after Katrina. I had tickets for me and M'ija bought two months in advance. We were supposed to fly out of New Orleans, but, of course, the airport was under water. Moving the departure point to Baton Rouge would have cost an extra couple hundred dollars, which I didn't have. So we had to miss the wedding.

I haven't, but my friend was headed with her family to an island for vacation, and was notified that the airport was shut down - the whole island was - due to an outbreak of swine flu!  They went a week or two later.  I'm pretty certain I would have found another destination.
