Have you ever had a natural disaster occur while you were on vacation?
Not on vacation, but when hubby travelled for work, there was one year where it seemed like every place he went would have an earthquake while he was there: California, Italy, Japan, etc. He was fine everytime but it became a morbid joke after a while, "Gee Honey, where are you going to now so you can jinx them with death and destruction?"
Also not a vacation and also not a natural disaster, but I was coming home from a business trip on the day the Rodney King verdict was announced and the riots broke out. At the time I was living in the San Francisco Bay Area and the company had the bright idea that if we flew in and out of the Oakland Airport it would save a lot of money. My boss and I flew back just as the riots were hitting their peak and had to drive through a hot bed of activity for an hour. It was weird to see shopping malls boarded up and stuff like that. We were allowed to fly out of the San Jose airport after that.
