What do you love/hate about your Laundry Room?

Now that we've analyzed our kitchens, what do you like and dislike about your laundry room/area?

My laundry is in the garage, but that is the only thing I don't like about it! I FINALLY got a dryer today (and a different washer) and they're fantastic.  We got the pedestals, and the washer and dryer actually open the right direction so it's easy to change the laundry (soooo annoying in my last laundry room!)  The washer has a feature where it will tumble and fan your clothes for up to 16 hours to keep them from getting musty, and the dryer has a steam function.  Best of all, I got the set for the same price as the set I tried to buy, to make up for the hassle, saving an additional $400 or so.

To be honest, I don't give my laundry area much thought. It is just an area in the basement where I wash my clothes. I do need a new washer and dryer soon, mine are on heir last legs, but we will use them until they die.

I like that it's on the main level in a separate room. I also have a fairly nice washer and dryer although we have had them for several years now. The room in right off the family room (you walk through it to go to the garage) so we can sit and do laundry easily while watching TV or while cooking etc, so the location is very convenient. Just switch the loads during commercials for example.

what I don't like is that the room is small. I'd LOVE a big laundry room with enough room for a mud room included etc since that's the room we walk through when entering the house. It would be so nice to be able to hang coats and have cubbies for shoes etc right there in the laundry/mud room, but it's way too small for that.

I hate that mine is not on the same level as the bed rooms. I hate carrying laundry up and down the stairs.

~ That it isn't organized yet. Currently it is the catch-all for stuff we're unpacking but have a place for yet.

~ That there is something wrong with how the drain was installed and gas from the septic system comes into the room after a heavy rain. We're working on that one. Currently there is a rag stuffed in the drain around the washer hose and that is taking care of it.

~ It could be bigger. The laundry room in my old house was huge and I miss it. This laundry room is bigger than in most houses but I'm spoiled.

Love that it's inside, the the exterior door has a big window in it, and that there are built in cabinets.  Would love it if there was more room - the furnace, water heater, utility closet, and pantry are in there.  Makes it like a galley, where I have to carry the laundry basket on my side to move through it.

Mine is narrow and at the end of the house (beside the kitchen).  I wish it were by the bedrooms and bathrooms where most of the dirty laundry is generated.

I do have some room to hang drip-dry things from the shelf.

What I like most about my laundry area is now it's upstairs next to the kitchen instead of downstairs.  Dh installed a cut down shower curtain rod and I have some room to hang up my stuff - not a lot, but enough that I can get by.  We also had the contractor install lots of cabinets above the washer and dryer, so I have lots of room there for all my laundry soap, fabric softener, etc.  I hung up some 'fashion' artwork there too so it feels like it is separate from the kitchen.  The washers and dryers are large.  I can do 3 loads of wash in the washer, but the dryer will 'take' 3 loads but will wrinkle.  If I have that much I just do another load.

What I don't have is folding area close by.  So I either do it on the washer/dryer, or take it to the island a few steps away in the kitchen.  Not a big deal, but it was nice in our old house to have a dedicated laundry room and countertop for folding.

I would prefer it in the basement so I didn't see it unless I needed to be in there.  It is currently right off the kitchen before you go downstairs to the basement.  It just seems to get cluttered and I don't like how it looks--there isn't enough space to keep things organized right now.

I actually didn't mind my laundry room until Pinterest came around and showed me how beautiful laundry rooms could be! Now I don't look at mine the same! It's too small, right off of our den area and our dogs stay in there during the day so they don't tear up our house.
